One of the giants of pop, rock and song in Spanish of all times. That is Andrés Calamaro. Inexhaustible, incorrigible, incorrigible. An omnivorous and overflowing talent that has delved into countless styles without betraying his own and that treasures almost twenty studio albums to his name, without counting his also referential career with Los Rodríguez or Los Abuelos de la Nada. An absolute icon.
It is not surprising that Raphael, Julio Iglesias, Lila Downs, Carlos Vives, Alejandro Sanz, Julieta Venegas or Vicentico are among the names that pay tribute to his songbook in Dios los cría (2021), the latest album released with material by the Argentine musician. Andrés Calamaro's steps are almost always unpredictable, but generally brilliant. Albums like Alta suciedad (1997), Honestidad brutal (1999) or El salmón (2000) and songs like "Flaca", "Estadio Azteca", "Te quiero igual", "Loco", "Dulce condena", "El día mundial de la mujer" or "Cuando te conocí" are part of the best history of popular music in Spanish, and are always approached on stage by the musician from Buenos Aires with an efficient band and with his traditional courage. That of a man who knows he is a great artist and a totally inimitable character.
American folk, flamenco or rockabilly, as well as his impeccable mastery of fingerpicking on the guitar, are some of the sound teachings of the Valencian Diego García, El Twanguero, one of the most illustrious globetrotters of rock español. His travels throughout Latin America have forged the character of his music. A mestizo proposal, sometimes borderline, like a sort of Hispanic Ry Cooder, with such an evocative spell as to have been put at the service of soundtracks for films such as Buried (Rodrido Cortés, 2010), for which he was nominated for a Goya. To date he has released six albums: The Brooklyn Session (2011), Argentina Songbook (2013), Pachuco (2015), Carreteras Secundarias Vol.1 (2017), Electric Sunset (2018) and Carreteras Secundarias Vol.2 (2022).
