They are two direct volcanic. Purebred. Two women who do not know what it is to step on stage without giving 200% of themselves. The Mexican Lila Downs and her rapturous way of reinterpreting the folklore of her country and Niña Pastori from Cadiz with her unwavering vision of flamenco.
The Cadiz-born Niña Pastori has been one of the main driving forces of flamenco in our country since 1996, although she has often brought the genre closer to more pop and contemporary languages. She has released ten albums, since Camarón de la Isla tutored her first steps and later Alejandro Sanz and Paco Ortega produced her first works. Winner of four Latin Grammys, two Dial Awards and several other Amigo Awards, María Rosa García García (that is the name on her ID card) has been an institution of our popular music for years.
Mexico's Lila Downs is a whirlwind. A force of nature. Vocalist, composer, anthropologist, producer and actress, the Mixtec Queen, pride of Oaxaca, has spent more than two decades and more than a dozen albums renewing the music of her country, assuming its tradition to project it into the future. Albums such as La Sandunga (1999), La cantina (2006), Balas y chocolate (2015) or the live Desde Bellas Artes México (2022) accredit her rapturous global vision, which equally draws from Mexican rancheras in the style of Woody Guthrie as from salsa rhythms, ancient Zapotec folk sounds and all kinds of folk derivations. His overwhelming live performance is unparalleled.
