Jazz and Latinity: a symbiosis that unfolds tonight in two sublime records separated by several decades of age and thousands of miles away. On one side, Chucho Valdés celebrating the 50th anniversary of his historic band Irakere. On the other, Andrea Motis offering the excellence of her alliance with Camerata Papageno from Chile.
To revive the work of this emblematic group, Chucho Valdés will be leading the 'Irakere 50' project, accompanied by the musicians of his quartet: José A. Gola (electric and acoustic bass), Horacio Hernández (drums) and Roberto Jr. Vizcaino Torre (percussion), as well as Eddie de Armas Jr. (trumpet), Osvaldo Fleites (trumpet), Luis Beltran (saxophone), Carlos Averhoff Jr. (saxophone), son of a deceased former Irakere member, and vocalist Ramon Alvarez.
Jazz and Latin American rhythms merge in "Febrero" (2024), the exceptional album that the Catalan Andrea Motis recorded in Chile with the Camerata Papageno, conducted by the Argentine Federico Dannemann. The vocalist and trumpeter from Barcelona and her partner, the Austrian violinist Christoph Mallinger, who often visit Chile for family reasons, made contact with the Chilean Cultural Foundation, a non-profit organization, and the result is this exquisite alliance, in which works by Gershwin, Pixinguinha or Antonio Carlos Jobim are mixed with two Mexican boleros and versions of Inti-Illimani.
