Los legendarios The Selecter y los experimentados Fat Freddy’s Drop comparten cartel en una noche que nos lleva del ska al soul, pasando por el jazz y el rhythm and blues.
Someone defined them as the result of joining the vibration of Jamaican dub with the prickly warmth of Memphis soul, seasoning them with world sounds, and it seems a quite reasonable description of what this New Zealand formation, which has been around for more than twenty years, is capable of doing. An octet from Wellington, formed in 1999, which also draws from reggae, jazz, rhythm and blues and electronic rhythms to trace an exemplary discography, which has in its eighth album, "Blackbird Returns" (2023), one of its best exponents.
The Selecter is led by their iconic frontwoman Pauline Black OBE. One of very few women in the 2-Tone scene, she is often referred to as the Queen of Ska. Known the world over for hits including “Three Minute Hero,” “Missing Words,” “Too Much Pressure” and “On My Radio” The Selecter continue to tour and release new music
proving that 2-Tone is still as relevant and important as it was 40 years ago. They released their much-acclaimed new studio album Human Algebra in April 2023.
A 3CD Box Set & Vinyl of Too Much Pressure was released in 2021 to celebrate the album’s 40th anniversary. The Deluxe Edition reached #1 in the Official UK Vinyl
Album Charts and #1 in the Official UK Independent Album Charts on its release. Original drummer Charley ‘Aitch’ Bembridge plays at the current live line-up. Sadly
original member Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson, who had been performing with the band until recently, passed away in June 2024 after a short illness.
The Selecter recently supported Blur at London’s Wembley Stadium and also performed live to at the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony in Birmingham
which was broadcast to a global audience. The anarchic passion that fuelled Selecter gigs during the original 2-Tone era is still there as they continue to perform at
festivals and venues around the world.
