Far beyond the cliché image that many have of the interpreter of "It's Not Unusual" or "Delilah", Tom Jones is an artist who has been able to recycle, reinvent himself and renew the validity of his creative stature.
A genius and a figure, Tom Jones is still that strapping Welsh vocalist capable of making boiling incursions into the American popular songbook, or of revaluing gems of consumer pop with dance dressing such as "Burning Down The House" (Talking Heads) or "Kiss" (Prince). At more than 80 years of age and hiding behind his sly half-smile, the old man is still a splendid entertainer, as well as a portentous vocalist, capable of letting out his roar with barely a blink of an eye. A showman with hundreds of notches in his chamber, who owes all his brilliance to his condition of extraordinary performer but also of artist with an eye on renewal, and who in recent years has chained a series of consecutive albums under the production of the historic Ethan Jones as "Long Lost Suitcase" (2015) or "Surrounded By Time" (2021), in which he has shown that few throats like his know how to extract more juice from the teachings of blues, gospel, rhythm and blues and even art rock. It is advisable to enjoy him while he still has this bellows.
