Noches de Botánico, on International Women's Day, would like to celebrate the incredible artists who will appear on stage in the Fifth Edition of the unique cycle of concerts, which takes place every summer, under the night skies of Madrid at the Jardín Botánico of the Complutense University.

We look for the best artists regardless of gender, however, it is important not to forget that, in the first instance, artists were mainly chosen by male A&Rs, in suits, in record companies, it is still a male-dominated industry, as is production, engineering and many, many of the key roles in the music industry.

Hopefully we will see a better music industry in the future, one that is not only able to embrace diversity, but also evolve with it. That said, we have always supported diversity at Noches del Botánico and this year we have many women who are not only different, but make a difference.

As the opening act, the legendary Estrella Morente with her powerful and syrupy voice breathes new life into the traditional Coplas and makes flamenco magnificent - always!

We also offer the unique show of Dido, the missing link between electronica and an authentic, sister, collaborator of Eminem and a woman who has sold millions of records worldwide with best-selling albums such as No Angel (1999) and her new work "Still On My Mind".

Beth Orton, best known for her amazing voice and who has a history of great collaborations with William Orbit, Andrew Weatherall and many others, opens for Belle & Sebastian. The Canadian singer/songwriter will perform selections from her latest release Kid Sticks, as well as hopefully surprise us with many other past glories.

The other notable and equally diverse and talented female artists featured on Botanical Nights include Jessie J, Cat Power, Agnes Obel, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Imelda May, Eva Ayllon and a few other surprises, as part of our commitment to equality and diversity, our goal is to bring the best music and artists regardless of gender or genre and they are it.

So today, on International Women's Day, let us also celebrate that, as a society, we have made great strides in breaking down barriers and we have made progress, but we must never forget that there is still much work to be done to make equality a reality and not just an aspiration.

Thank you for your support to our artists and today especially to our female artists.
