If anything characterizes the concert series Noches del Botánico is musical eclecticism. The lineup of this 2018 edition contains a varied menu according to all tastes in which, of course, there is also room for flamenco.
Those responsible for championing the genre this year are Miguel Poveda, who will perform on Saturday July 14 on the stage of the Botanical, and Farruquito, who will do the same on Monday July 16. Two events of unquestionable quality and talent.
On the first day, Miguel Poveda from Barcelona will give us his new show, EnLorquecido, a tribute to the remembered poet Federico García Lorca. Poveda, one of the most representative contemporary artists of flamenco in Spain, brings two years of in-depth research into Lorca's life and work to his latest album. A month ago we heard 'No me encontraron', the first of the singles that make up this album, which sounds enormous....
"I had always sailed in the ocean that is the life and work of Federico García Lorca, but I had never dived as deep as I have done in the last two years, and I've come to "enlorquecer" in a rapturous way", confesses Miguel Poveda himself, who has surrounded himself with the best musicians and technicians, from Maestro Amargós in charge of musical direction and piano playing, to Jesús Guerrero's bewitching guitar playing.
And, in addition to Lorca, on July 14 will be played at the Real Jardín Botánico his greatest hits and journeys through all the flamenco styles, as well as the copla and popular songs.
The bailaor (flamenco dancer) arrives in Madrid with a new show that combines the traditional with the most modern aspects of his flamenco and in which, according to the artist himself, "I reveal my most personal side". In 'Improvisao' Farruquito uses choreography to give balance to the show, in which the heart is improvisation, understood as the origin of flamenco.
As Julio Martí, the festival's artistic director, pointed out during the press conference to present the festival, "Farruquito will tell us about his life experience, where the musical part will be the key to the show, performing alongside his 17 travelling companions".
Grandson of the famous flamenco dancer Farruco and son of Juan Fernández Flores 'El Moreno' (cantaor) and Rosario Montoya Manzano (bailaora), Farruquito is considered one of the best dancers in the world and boasts a precocious career. In 2004 he received the Public Award for Best Dancer, the Flamenco Hoy Award for Best Dancer, the Telón Chivas04 Award for Best Dance Performer and the APDE 2004 Award for Depositary of the Flamenco Heritage.
