The dictionary of the Real Academia de la Lengua defines talent as the "capacity for the performance of something". And, if we are talking about musical abilities, it is clear that the two artists who 'shook' the stage of the Real Jardín Botánico of Alfonso XIII last July 9 have plenty of them.
Because if to the ability to play an instrument to perfection, whether it be the piano or your voice, you add the ability to master it and perform pieces in their maximum difficulty as if it were the easiest thing in the world, that is when TALENT with capital letters appears.
The first half of the evening was by the superb American pianist Brad Mehldau, who came to the Botánico in trio format, accompanied by Larry Grenadier on double bass and Jeff Ballard on drums. Jazz played brilliantly by a true genius.
And the second half of the evening belonged to Cécile McLorin Salvant, a woman with a supernatural voice, and her band. They dared to play Irving Berlin, Kurt Weill, Burt Bacharah and even The Beatles.
She also revealed her secret in the form of a song - 'Sing if you want to sing' - and even said goodbye singing at español impeccably with Violeta Parra's delicious 'Gracias a la vida'.
