Both are very young, have an academic background and come from very musical families, but they have bypassed orthodoxy to transcend jazz and come up with fully non-transferable sound languages. There are many things that the Icelandic Laufey and the Catalan Rita Payés have in common.
If the new vocal jazz is to have a denomination of origin, it must surely bear the signature of Laufey Lín Jónsdóttir. A 25-year-old Icelandic woman, raised between Reykjavik and Washington DC, now living in Los Angeles and a devoted admirer of Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, Norah Jones and Adele, she has demonstrated in only three albums that her songs share the legacy of the classics and a prodigious capacity to sound natural, close, serene and intimate. Daughter of an Icelandic violin teacher and a Chinese violinist, trained at the Berklee school, Laufey has shown in the recent "Bewitched" (2023), a second album that revolves around the idea of love in its many forms, that she can be one of the great stars of the next decade.
DE CAMINO AL CAMINO
Rita Payés presents her third album, "De Camino al Camino", a work that dives into the search for beauty in everyday things. A testimony of the roots that connect us to our origin and link us to keep moving forward, a varied amalgam of styles and influences under a single common thread, a path.
This new project is revealed as a journey shared with those who have been an integral part of her journey since the beginning, her musical tribe. Outstanding collaborators such as Elisabeth Roma, Pol Batlle, Horacio Fumero and Juan Berbín, once again join this journey. On this occasion, Rita Payés expands her family even further by incorporating a string quartet, providing a unique, captivating and enriching dimension to this avant-garde initiative.
With a consolidated artistic proposal backed by renowned talents, we extend a cordial invitation to join us along this journey, a musical journey where emotion, mastery and connection with the roots converge in a masterful way.
